"All products, no matter how popular they may seem, are created for a specific type of people, or for a specific person. This is called the target market."
I’ve worked with a handful of people who told me that their
product is for everyone.
“It’s for everyone who has problems.”
“It’s for everyone who’s stressed.”
“It’s for everyone who drinks water.”
“It’s for everyone who breathes.” Just kidding.
Believe me, if you say your product is for everyone, then it’s really not for anyone. You’re just going to waste your time and money.
"You need a target market."
They are the specific group of people you want to sell your product or service to. Imagine the group of people who will use your product.
Who are they?
Target Market Profile:
- Gender: Female
- Age: 20 to 30 years old
- Social Class: Class C/Middle class
- Civil Status: Single
- Source of income: Employment
- Location of residence: Quezon City
- Location of work: Ortigas, Mandaluyong City
- Monthly Salary: P25,000.00
- Office designation: Marketing Officer
- Media exposure
This gives you an example of a basic target market profile. I suggest that you go as far as knowing their daily itinerary, the organizations they join, the materials they read, etc.
You target market should be someone you know very very well.
